Our Programs

Have a need? Call Love INC. The first thing you’ll hear is the voice of a caring, well equipped volunteer from one of our partner churches. A volunteer who will take the time to listen and care for you; who will inquire about the presenting need, but also explore the broader context of your situation. Everything we do revolves around relationships because Love INC isn’t just about meeting needs, it’s about meeting people where they are at, and helping them achieve their God-given potential. Here are a few of the ways we do that in our community.

Call Center

The Love INC Call Center takes many requests for help each year. These calls are answered by caring volunteers who listen to understand people’s situations and direct them to the most appropriate source of help. This can mean a referral to an area agency or services provided by area churches and volunteers through the Call Center.

Adopt-A-Student

Sponsored by: Love INC and Canton Partner Churches
One of the first outreach programs that Love INC of Greater Canton and our partner churches established was the Adopt-A-Student Program. In cooperation with the local churches, a church member is asked to adopt a child to provide school supplies and a backpack for a local student in need. Love INC’s Clothing Closet also provides a $15 clothing voucher to each student.

Friday Backpack

The Friday Backpack Ministry provides free food items in the student’s backpack each Friday to assist families who are struggling to make ends meet. The ministry provides supplemental food for children who would otherwise go without food for the weekend.

Each Friday various food items are placed in a backpack by church volunteers and brought to the elementary and middle/high school.

Reality Check

Love INC of Greater Canton hosts a program with Canton High School students as participants in a true to life scenario to give them a taste of “life” after graduation. Beforehand, students are asked to choose a career so information would be pertinent to them in regards to earnings, taxes etc. The volunteers represent specific businesses, such as banks, communications, insurance, entertainment, daycare, housing, charities, etc. They help the students make choices with the first month’s payroll marked in their checkbooks. Several students have remarked they were surprised at how fast their money was spent on the necessities of life.

Helping Hands Baby Ministry

Canton United Methodist Church partners with Love INC, to help with your baby needs, which include diapers, baby wipes, diaper rash ointment, etc. Through the efforts of all our partner churches, we gather baby items that are available to you in an emergency situation.

If you are in need of baby items, please contact the Love INC office at 605-764-0453. Our Call Center Coordinator will help you set up an appointment.

Love INC's Clothing Closet

Love INC’s Clothing Closet sells gently used clothing for all ages at affordable prices. Love INC’s Clothing Closet accepts donations of gently used clothing for men, women, and children. Accessories such as scarves, purses, jewelry, belts, and shoes may also be donated. All donations need to be clean, pressed, and current. Donations can be dropped off at the store during store hours. After business hours, you may put donations in the donation bin outside the west side of the Love INC building, located at 111 East 6th Street, Canton.

Through the efforts of Love INC’s partner church, Redeemer Free Lutheran has gathered personal care items that are available in an emergency situation.

Thanksgiving and Christmas Meals

Love INC has families who are in need at Christmas and other holidays such as Thanksgiving and Easter. Love INC works with Sunshine Foods in Canton to provide each family with a gift certificate to use for their holiday meal.

Adopt-A-Family For Christmas

These are opportunities to provide a special meal for a family. Christmas gives the additional opportunity of giving gifts to a family. Those requesting to “Adopt-A-Family” will be supplied with specific ages of family members, but no names so we can protect the family’s confidentiality. The family can also supply a suggested wish list of items. Please call 764-0453 for more information.
